Why use this

When do you need to flip an image?

Selfies and front-facing camera photos are often saved as mirror images because the preview on screen shows the mirrored view. When the photo is actually used in documents, websites, or printed materials, it can look awkward if text or familiar objects appear backwards. A horizontal flip corrects this and gives the image the natural orientation.

Flipping is also a core technique in symmetrical design work. Creating a logo by designing one half and mirroring it, or building a balanced composition from two instances of the same asset, requires a reliable and fast flip tool.

In print and publishing workflows, images sometimes need to be mirrored to match a page layout or bleed direction. Editorial designers and prepress operators regularly flip images to maintain composition balance across spreads.

Tips for flipping images

Horizontal flip for selfie correction

Most front-facing cameras save a mirrored version of what you see in the preview. Horizontal flip restores the natural appearance.

Vertical flip for inverted graphics

Use vertical flip to turn a graphic upside down for creative layouts, or to correct a scanned document that was placed upside down.

Both flips equals 180 degree rotation

Applying both horizontal and vertical flip is mathematically identical to rotating 180 degrees. Use the Image Rotator for that if it is clearer.

Output format matches input

A PNG input gives a PNG output with transparency preserved. A JPEG input gives a JPEG output.

Combine with crop for symmetrical designs

Flip one side of an image, then use the Image Merger tool to combine the original and flipped version side by side for a symmetrical effect.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between flip and rotate?

Flipping creates a mirror image of the original. Rotating turns the image clockwise or counter-clockwise without mirroring. Use the Image Rotator for rotation.

Will the output format change?

No. The output uses the same format as your input image. PNG inputs produce PNG outputs with transparency preserved.

Can I apply both flip directions at once?

Yes. Check both Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical to flip in both directions simultaneously, which is equivalent to a 180-degree rotation.

Is my image private and secure?

Your images are processed securely and stay private. They are never shared or stored anywhere.
